Transferring Wefunder Investments After an Investor's Death: Estate Transfer Process
If you're the beneficiary, heir, or estate representative of a Wefunder investor who has passed away, Wefunder will send you a beneficiary transfer link so you can complete the transfer online.
## What you'll need before you start
**A Wefunder account under your own email address:**
If you don't already have one, create it at www.wefunder.com/signup and reply back once done.
**The deceased investor's Wefunder account email:**
The email address associated with the deceased investor's Wefunder account.
**Death certificate:**
A copy of the death certificate of the original investor.
**Court documents:**
Signed and sealed court documents such as a probate decree, letters testamentary, or similar legal proof that you are the rightful beneficiary or estate representative authorized to manage these investments.
## How to start
Share the deceased investor's email address so Wefunder can generate the beneficiary transfer link. The link is sent to your Wefunder account email and opens a secure form where you'll upload the death certificate and probate documents.
## Where the investments land
You can direct the transferred investments to either:
**Your own personal Wefunder account:**
The investments move directly into your account after the transfer is complete.
**The deceased investor's estate:**
Complete the initial transfer first, then add the estate as an entity in your account and submit a separate Entity Transfer to move the investments into it.
## What happens after you submit the form
**Wefunder-managed investments (Custodian or SPV):**
Wefunder reviews your documents and prepares a beneficiary transfer contract for e-signature. Once signed, ownership is updated in Wefunder's records.
**Direct investments:**
For investments held directly on a company's cap table, Wefunder facilitates contact with the company so the transfer can be completed with them directly.
Wefunder will keep you informed throughout and let you know if anything else is needed.
