Understanding refunds
## How Refunds Work
When you cancel your investment in the app, or if a Community Round doesn't reach its goal, your refund is automatically sent back to you. Here's how it works.
- If you paid by bank account or credit card, your refund returns to that same account automatically.
- If you invested via wire transfer, your money goes to your Wefunder Cash account instead. From there, you can transfer it to your US bank account or wire it internationally. We don't process refunds via check.
## How Long It Takes
Once we review your eligibility for a refund, here's what to expect if the refund is approved:
- **ACH Bank Transfer (US):** 5-7 business days
- **Stablecoin Payments:** 3-5 business days
- **Credit Card:** Typically 3 business days
- **Wire Transfer (US):** 3-5 business days
- **Wire Transfer (International):** 5-7 business days, sometimes up to 14
- **Wefunder Credit:** Issued same day
Why the variation? We process refunds immediately on our end, but your bank or card issuer controls how quickly the deposit hits your account. International transfers take longer because multiple banks are involved.
### What If Your Card Is Closed?
If your original payment card has been closed and you're eligible to receive a refund, let us know and provide proof of closure of the account (a letter from your bank, screenshot, etc.). After we've received the proper documentation, and once we've confirmed you're eligible for a refund (more on this below), we'll work with our team to ensure your refund gets processed.
## When Refunds Happen
You can only get a refund in these specific situations:
- **Your investment is still pending:** If funds for your investment haven't been disbursed to the company yet, you can usually cancel and get a refund (each case is unique and subject to review)
- **The company canceled their fundraising:** Money automatically gets refunded
- **Technical error on our end:** We'll review it and process a refund if applicable
- **Fraud or unauthorized investment:** Contact support@wefunder.com immediately with details
## When Refunds Aren't Possible
Once your investment is complete and the money reaches the company, that's final. You own equity in that company now, and that equity is yours long-term. Refunds don't happen because of changes in the company's performance, market conditions, or if you invested by accident after it was completed.
## A charge appeared but my investment shows as cancelled. When will I get my money back?
If your investment was cancelled but you still see a charge, it's usually because a payment was triggered when the investment was first created. Any pending charge should drop off within a few business days once the original transaction finishes processing, at which point we can return it to your original payment method. If you don't see the charge reversed after 7-10 business days, share the details of your cancelled investment with us and we can investigate.
## My refund went to my Wefunder Cash balance instead of my bank
Sometimes a refund or cancelled investment credits back to your Wefunder Cash balance rather than going directly to your bank. To move it out, go to wefunder.com/cash, click **Withdraw money**, select your linked bank account, and confirm the amount. Processing takes 3-7 business days once submitted.
**If a withdrawal failed or returned with an error:** This usually means the account number on file doesn't match what your bank has on record. Go to wefunder.com/settings/banks_and_cards, remove the current bank account, re-link your bank (or add a different account), then submit a new withdrawal at wefunder.com/cash. If it fails again after re-linking, reply here with the last 4 digits of the account you're using and we'll investigate.
## Need Help?
Before reaching out, check if your investment is still pending in your portfolio. If it is, or if there was a technical error, contact us at support@wefunder.com with:
- Company name
- Investment amount
- Why you're requesting a refund
- Date you invested (if you remember)
Time matters in some refund situations, so don't wait. Reach out as soon as you know you need help.
