Cancelling an investment
## Can I cancel my investment and get a refund?
As long as your funds haven’t been disbursed to the company, you can typically cancel your investment from your [Wefunder Portfolio](wefunder.com/portfolio), if eligible.
[See this help article](https://help.wefunder.com/hc/t6vc02j1gl/article/33fd9dca-understanding-refunds) for more info on how refunds work!
## How do I cancel my investment?
Log into your Wefunder account and navigate to your Portfolio: wefunder.com/portfolio.
From there, look for your investment.
Remember: You can only cancel an **un-confirmed investment** (meaning funds have not been sent to the company). If the investment is un-confirmed, it will show up at the top of the Portfolio page in the “Needs Action” or “In Progress” sections.
- When you have open action items to take care of, the investment will appear in the “Needs Action” section.
- If all of your action items have been addressed, the investment will sit in the “In Progress” section.
- If you see the investment in the “Portfolio Investments” section, your funds have been disbursed to the company and the investment has been confirmed. You cannot cancel and receive a refund at this point.
To cancel an un-confirmed investment from your Portfolio page, click on the “Edit” text next to the investment. On the following page, click “Edit” again. Next, you’ll be taken to the investment editor page; Here you can edit the amount of your investment (decrease / increase) or cancel, if eligible.
Scroll to the bottom of the investment editor page and click the red “Cancel Investment” button to officially cancel the investment. Be sure to follow all of the prompts to complete the cancellation process.
## What happens to my money after I cancel an investment?
If you cancel an investment you’ve already funded, the system will automatically begin to process a refund. Refunds for cancelled investments typically take 5-7 business days to clear and reach your original payment method. Note: If you wired funds to us for your investment, the money will be deposited to your Wefunder Cash wallet, where you can withdraw the funds back to your bank account or apply the funds towards another investment.
If you are cancelling a **reservation** and not an **investment**, check the original payment method you used. You could have paid via:
- **Credit card** - We place a hold on the card but do not actually charge you at the time of reservation
- **ACH / wire transfer**
- Funds for reservations in Reg CF raises are sent to your Wefunder Cash wallet, since we cannot legally collect money for your investment just yet (funds can only be collected after the company’s Form C has been filed). Go to your Wefunder Cash wallet and withdraw the funds back to your bank account (or for international investors, request a wire): wefunder.com/cash
If you funded your investment (or reservation) through a self-directed IRA, we will need to wire the funds directly back to your IRA provider / custodian. Connect us and your IRA custodian so we can confirm their wire info and return the funds.
## Why was my investment cancelled, and can I reinstate it?
If you didn't cancel your investment yourself, it may have been cancelled for a few reasons — ranging from non-payment to an unfinished action item like identity verification or providing your Tax ID. If the cancellation is related to an open action item, check for the reminder emails we sent with instructions for what we still need from you.
Reinstating a cancelled investment is typically only possible while the company's raise is still open:
- **If the raise is still open:** Go to the company's campaign page and follow the prompts to set up a new investment.
- **If the raise has closed:** Reply to us and we'll check whether it's still possible to reinstate the investment.
