Investor updates: how, when, why

## What you need to know Unlike public companies, investor updates aren't legally required. But here's the thing - **Wefunder expects that you'll remain in contact with your investors, ideally quarterly or at least every six months.** The investors who believed in you early want to know how their money is working for you. So keep them in the loop. **These updates don't need to be long or formal**. Some of the best investor updates on Wefunder are less than a few sentences. Just share the good news, keep it authentic, and always throw in a picture if you can. ## How to post an update 1. Head to your **Home** page - https://wefunder.com/activity/[company] 2. Click the "Investor Update" option from the compose bar 3. Write your update in the text editor (you can bold, italicize, and add paragraph breaks, photos, etc.) 4. Click **Publish** 5. Choose your audience: private (investors only) or public (everyone) 6. Decide if you want to send email notifications ## What should you share? Here are some examples of updates that hit well with investors: **Product updates**: Announcing new features, products, or services is great news. **News update**: Any good press or media mention? Your investors will love it. They want you to succeed, and your wins are their wins. **Happenings**: New partnerships, team expansions, office moves, or just cool stuff happening at your company. **Funding update**: Getting additional funding? Tell your investors! They often want to know how they can invest again. **Off-platform investor event**: Live chat with your investors? Document it and let the community know. **Pivots** Don't be scared to share about pivots - this shows your investors you're thinking strategically and staying transparent. Silence can be costly and seriously damage trust and reputation. Keep them informed, even (especially) when the path isn't straight. ## Why this matters One of the fastest ways to lose trust with your Wefunder investors is to completely disappear after closing. People who invested their money in your startup want to know how you're progressing. That could be a new sale, a mention in the press, a hire, a partnership, or literally anything else you're excited about. A quick update goes a long way with investors!
