Downloading tax documents (K-1s)
If you are an investor located in the U.S. and your investment had a qualifying taxable event during a tax year, you'll need the K-1 form to report it on your taxes. Here's how to find and save your tax documents (K-1 form).
## Where to find your tax docs
You have two easy ways to access your tax documents:
**Method 1: Direct Link**
Go straight to your tax docs at http://wefunder.com/docs
**Method 2: Through Your Account Menu**
1. Click your profile icon in the top right corner of your account
2. Look for the "Tax Docs" option in the dropdown menu
3. This takes you to the same tax documents page
## What you're looking for
Your K-1 forms are created only if your investment(s) have qualifying taxable events during the tax year. These might include things like secondary market sales, company liquidity events, or certain profit distributions. If the K-1 doc(s) aren't ready, you will see the company name and an "expected by" date with further context. If you don't see anything, there were no qualifying taxable events during the tax year for your investments and a K-1 will not be created.
## Saving your documents
Once you find your K-1 forms, you can download and save them somewhere safe. You'll want them handy when you file your taxes or work with a tax professional.
## Possible delays
If your K-1 form is expected to be ready *after* the April 15th filing deadline, this usually means the company has not given the SPV a K-1 document just yet. We work closely with companies to retrieve these important tax docs, but sometimes companies are slow to provide them. We will continue to follow up with these companies and closely monitor the status of any pending K-1s that have an expected deadline after April 15th.
## International investors
International investors will not receive K-1 docs. If you are an international investor looking for supporting documents for your country's tax reporting requirements, we don't provide any specific documentation, but your subscription agreement may give you the information you're looking for. To download your subscription agreement, go to the Portfolio page in your Wefunder account (wefunder.com/portfolio) and locate the investment in your list of confirmed investments. Click to open the detail view on the right-hand side of the page and click the "Download contracts" button. In the details view, you can also see information about the original investment amount, plus any change in investment value, which may be helpful for your taxes too.
