Paid promotion

## Yes, you can pay for promotion It's totally fine to pay someone to promote your round. The only rule: they have to be clear, every single time they promote, that they're being paid to do it. This includes your employees too. Even if they're naturally talking about your round (not as part of their official job), and you're not specifically paying them for promotion, you still need to disclose it. If there's any expectation that they'll promote your round, that counts. **Your responsibility:** You need to take reasonable steps to make sure the disclosure is actually happening. Don't just assume people are doing it. Check in, remind them, and follow up. Additionally, promoters can’t be paid “based on the sale of a security”, otherwise they would be a broker-dealer. This means no payment based on the amount sold in the offering, like a percent commission, can be made. And remember: any promotion you do off the Wefunder platform needs to follow the [advertising rules](https://help.wefunder.com/hc/t6vc02j1gl/article/68fa7985-2-promoting-your-community-round-compliantly) too. Same compliance rules apply everywhere.
