Adding a beneficiary
## How to Add a Beneficiary to Your Investment
A beneficiary designation ensures your Wefunder investments pass to the people you choose if something happens to you, without going through probate.
## Add a Beneficiary
1. Go to your account settings at https://www.wefunder.com/settings
2. Click on "Investor Information"
3. Under "Beneficiaries," click "Add Beneficiary" and enter their details
You can add up to 10 beneficiaries and update them anytime.
## What Happens When You Add a Beneficiary
Your beneficiary inherits your Wefunder investments without probate, which avoids lengthy court processes. They can choose to keep the stock and equity holdings or sell them to another investor.
## Important: Louisiana Residents
If you live in Louisiana, state law doesn't allow beneficiary designations on investment accounts. You won't be able to add a beneficiary through Wefunder.
## Key Points
- You can name up to 10 beneficiaries (your spouse, children, or anyone else)
- Wefunder doesn't currently support contingent beneficiaries (a backup group who'd inherit only if your first choice doesn't). However, you can list multiple people as co-beneficiaries, and they'd each inherit a share
- Update your designations anytime to reflect changes in your situation
